ABOUT THE SANDMAN

In 1973 while still in college I create “Sand Sculpture, and realized as pretty as it was, it was hard to sell my work but not hard to sell when children got involved making their own. I created Sand sculpture kits, Formed a corporation “Nature’s Inspiration” . Sold my kit to TG and Y and Target Stores.
Then with my former partner Tom Carpenter, we created “Merry Go Round” glass studios in Fort Smith, they became a chain of studios, we then built a glass plant to supply the chain of studios. I was the foreman of the hot end. I poured all the sheets of glass the same way they did it a hundred years ago. That experience is what inspired what I do today Silica and Glass.
1979 moved to Eureka Springs formed a partnership and a corporation call Morrison Woodward Gallery’s Inc.
1983 rented the space I’m now in, and begin to remodel. It was a wreck. That same year We also began a project called Arkansas Wilderness, this project, was used by Bill Clinton and other politicians to help convince Congress to save those sites. 11 of the 12 sides are still protective.
Bill Clinton declared Wilderness month.
1983 to 1992 build a three-story Gallery in the same building I’m in now.
“Morrison Woodward galleries” “The Eureka Fine Art Company” and “Susan Morrison signature Gallery”. Each Gallery was very successful several for decades.
Promoted Susan Morrison’s art coast to coast and doing national shows very successful.
1992, Commission by Sam Walton,to do “Animal Tracks” Walmart's national environmental education program.
Hillary Clinton was involved and Alice Walton was on our border directors along with other Fortune 500 Companies.“Animal Tracks” won national awards as an environmental education program. Susan was given a show at the national Museum of Women Hillary Clinton came to that, and Alice Walton said she was inspired to create Crystal Bridges partly because of “Animal Tracks”
1995 to 2015 created “ The American Wildlife Expeditions”. 20 years, of exploring wild places in our country, to photograph wildlife, be later drawn by Susan Morrison in life-size. This project was supported by private patrons. Some collectors were wealthy and join us on expeditions, but most bought prints and enjoyed the expeditions through the work. This project is now considered one of the largest bodies of work ever done in life size of Americas wildlife.
During those years, Eureka became one of the top 25 small our communities in the country.
Our three-story Gallery was one of the best in the country and we were all making money.
That has all changed, so in 2017 I created “Silica and Glass“ a new art-form inspired By the molten Stainglass that I Created, when I was the foreman of the glass plant. I First created commercial pieces that are still in places like Mud St., Café, and the Mud St., Annex.
